The first Immortal album does not fit into the trend which made them unique in black metal, that started in their second album "Pure Holocaust". In their first full-length we find a mid-paced, atmospheric, very Bathory-inspired black metal. Some bits include acoustic guitars to create a dark, mystical atmosphere, totally fitting the title of the album. The sound is not cold as we know it from later Immortal works, but overall it is good and clear (in the context of black metal). A good album, although later efforts are more distinctive and personal, and perhaps a lot more essential.
