Discouraged Ones

Reviewed by Nikolay Rachev

You should know that 'Discouraged Ones' is a more special album than usually. The logo is changed - now the name of the band is surrounded by a black rectangle /the same is doing about dead men/.And I think it's true to say that this is the first full-length release from 'the new' KATATONIA. Falling in a sea of sadness and despair - this is a good definition about the album. You'll not hear the voice of Akerfeldt or Blackheim - all the stuff is made by Renkse. There are no alternation of brutal and 'clean' vox or complicated-played guitars. On the contrary, the structure of the songs is simple, with often repeated refrains. From technical view 'Discouraged...' is not perfect, but I think this album is made to touch your heart, not so much your ears. The melancholy embrace you slowly while you're listening to the tracks. If you feel bad or just want to hear 'the other side' of Metal, find this.
