So here we have it...
What may be considered as the most contemporary album that the band released and if not, one of their best. This album would suggest a similar later musical change which bands such as Katatonia, Paradise Lost and Anathema did as they have appeared to 'mellowed out' but this isn't the case. From the opening track 'The Whore, The Cook And The Mother' explodes into a massive, doom-caked, atmopsheric sonic beauty. You realize this is definitely something special. In fact I wouldn't call many of the tracks on this album Metal for instance some songs such as 'Heroin Chic' have an industrial touch and this kind of theme runs througout the whole album in many cases. However, there are some very cleverly arranged melodies in here and it is nothing short of a masterpeice. The trademark depressive and dark moods of My Dying Bride are still there and very strong, but they decided to make it into something a bit more different as many of the subjects are very revealing and graphic which is totally different to past works where the band's lyrics have been very elusive but at the same time powerful none the less this time round the themes mainly deal with real life situations. I would most definatly reccomend this to anyone who is a fan of My Dying Bride or similar acts or someone who is interested in ironic or obscure music. It is the black sheep of the ever growing back catalouge of a truly astounting band that will surley go on to make albums as great as this in the years to come.
Standout tracks include: 'The Whore, The Cook and The Mother', Der Uberlende, Apocolpyse Woman and 'Under Your Wings and Into Your Arms'
