The second LP from these masters of death/doom metal is absolutely stunning.improving a lot from their previus release, here you can find a mature band which is tryng to explore new paths in their musical career, and developing a new kind of sound which would be copied by a lot of bands in this genre, but would never be equalized. in my opinion, next releases by MDB, would be less inspired, and as if they were trying to achieve again the superb aura in this album, their magical formula repeats self-induced cliches from turn loose the swans.
Listening to this cd you can experience the solidification of a style which was beggining to take form, and was free from standards and bullshit.
Songs like "your river" or "the crown of simpathy" are the pinneacle of doom metal, with their gloomy, melancholic cadenza, while milder songs like "black god" starts the tradition of medievalesque-choir songs.
An absolute masterpiece.
