Death Rock meeting Death Metal is the best description one could make of the ahead-of-its-time "Gothic", one of Paradise Lost's first albums and the the true enabler of the Doom/Death movement.
PL have gone a long way since then - signing on to Jive and sticking to clean-vocal radio pop songs - but this change will not undermine their legacy as being the U.K.'s most grim extreme metal bands.
So much emotion in this album - "Eternal", "Painless", "Gothic" (title track) - excellent guttural vocals, keyboards and female vocals used only when neccessary, no fault can be found in this album whatsoever.
