The Astral Sleep is the gates for the Tiamat I love. This predecessor of Clouds may be a bit of a surprise for those who relish the “postclaudian” band. The powerful Timat with almost death vocals and definitely heavy guitars enters the path to their best album (Clouds). The mistaken ones might say that Clouds is just a polished copy of Astral Sleep. My overall impression is that the album is a bit monotonous. Music on this record bears the mark of slightly primitive death metal. Still The Astral Sleep is a piece of good music. Sumerian Cry Part III enchants with its melodic guitar part and its interesting structure. Fortunately there appear couple more excerpts far from being banal. This albums seems to belong to metal history now, but you might still want to put it on before delving into clouds…
